Goodwill Arts Festival Intro
The 1990 Seattle Goodwill Games brought over 2000 athletes from around the world to compete in over 20 sporting events. In addition to the athletic aspect of the event there was also the Goodwill Arts Festival, a cultural exchange between the United States, Soviet Union, and many other countries. The arts festival lasted from June 1st to September 30th (in conjunction with the the exhibit Moscow: Treasures and Traditions), with performances scheduled between July 2nd and August 5th, 1990.1 The Goodwill Arts Festival was as important a component as the athletic events, and it encompassed the philosophy of people to people connections. In it’s time it was considered a grand success, but in the modern day it is harder to measure the festival’s impact.
