The many art exchanges and exhibits that went on during the Cold War between Seattle and Tashkent shows you how far creativity can take you. Something like art that can be used as a form of citizen diplomacy, peace activism and a way to bring people together and form relationships is certainly amazing. The notion that we are not the enemies people think we are and that we have a common interest such as art is what really brings these people together.

And makes many look beyond the stereotypes and ideas many have about each other, the various forms of exchanges that took place such as the children’s exchange which brings a key theme of innocence and an idea that our children our getting involved maybe we should put an end to this, children shouldn’t have to worry or fear that they could be attacked and their home could be blown away. We have seen instances with children playing a role in peace activism for example with Samantha Smith where we see our youth getting involved in matters they shouldn’t. In a time where many believed their city could be blown up at any moment. These exchanges and exhibits gave many of these citizens hope and a chance to actually help in changing the world and bringing peace rather than just feeling hopeless and doing nothing. It didn’t matter that they were talking to governments or doing something major in peace activism, just the thought of getting to know one another and build relationships through art gave many hope.
